Not the new Ghostbusters movie poster, alas!
As noted by sf site io9, America’s astrophysicist, Neil deGrasse Tyson, host of StarTalk, has produced a nice introduction for the Ares 3 mission to Mars, including an eye-catching look at the Hermes, the spaceship that will carry the 6-member crew to the Red Planet in only 124 days.
Ahead Warp Factor 0.00003!
Alas, despite Dr. Tyson’s talk of “way back in 2029”, the Ares 3 mission is still just a gleam in Hollywood’s eye, as the basis for the new Matt Damon movie, The Martian, adapted from the book by Andy Weir. Mr. Damon and company come to the big screen on October 3, but The Martian comes to the Beamers club meeting on September 11. As Dr. Tyson says (in a shout-out to long-time PBS sky watcher Jack Horkheimer): “Keep looking up!”
