‘Mr. Murakami’s Place’ open for business
Open Culture is reporting that author Haruki Murakami has started an advice column on his website. For the month of January 2015, fans may submit questions to him about life, the universe, and everything, and he will issue responses over the next several weeks. Topics currently addressed include: the emotional sensitivity of cats, rising times for marathon runs, diminishing libido, what to do at age 19, and his love for Iceland. (Sadly, an English language translation site being run by a fan was forced to close due to legal pressure.)
What would he tell Jay Gatsby to do about Daisy?
And even if advice is not required (or desired), Colin Marshall notes that the site is a Murakami fan’s delight, with “an abundance of bipedal cats and sheep, jazz albums, Johnny Walker figures, and Yakult Swallows [Japanese baseball] memorabilia.”
